Devon van Oostrum, who at just 18 is the youngest ever senior GB international, was to the fore as the Standard Life GB team completed their preparations for next week's Olympic Test event with a 95-80 win over Nigeria at Cobham.
Van Oostrum, who has been promoted directly from the GB U20 team, contributed 18 points and three assists as coach Chris Finch again rotated his large squad, which has to be cut from 18 to 14 for next week's tournament at the Basketball Arena on the Olympic Park.
Kyle Johnson added 11 points and four rebounds and Eric Boateng dominated the boards with 14 rebounds which combined with his strong all-round performance against Holland on Sunday saw him voted as the tournament's MVP.
“It was a good win tonight, Nigeria were a better team than Holland who we beat on Sunday night. It’s not all about top scoring, I think I brought some energy off the bench too and it was great helping the team to the win.”
Meanwhile Standard Life GB assistant coach, Nick Nurse was delighted with the performance: “It’s been a really perfect two-game tournament for us. We’ve have a lot guys here and we’ve shown we’ve got a lot of depth, so it’ll be difficult to figure out the final roster, but that’s a great problem to have.”
Great Britain never looked back after a first period which saw them hit seven of their nine three point attempts to lead by 15, and they then went on to hit a blistering 59 per cent from outside the arc.
