The Caja Laboral Vitoria’s player will be one of the protagonists of the Eurobasket in Lituania. The guard will be the youngest player in the tournament, at 18 years and 7 months old. Van Oostrum has played internationally for Great Britain with the U16, U18, U20 and senior teams, and is the youngest player ever at the senior level for the British. The guard made his debut with the senior team in a friendly game in the 2010 summer, at 17 years and 6 months old.
Van Oostrum has earned a spot on coach Chris Finch’s team during the seven friendly games in preparation for the Eurobasket. He shined in the second game, against Nigeria, with 18 points and 3 assists. Before joining the senior team, this summer he led the U20 British team at the division B European Championships in Bosnia with averages of 13,1 points, 7,1 rebounds and 5 assists per game.
At the Eurobasket, Great Britain will be placed in the Group A and Van Oostrum and his teammates will debut on Wednesday 31st against hosts Lituania.
